Expansion Projects Connect Communities

Project Overview

As part of an Ontario initiative to bring natural gas to communities where it was previously not viable, NPL Canada supports their customer Enbridge Gas on a number of community expansion projects.

Once a community is selected by the provincial government, NPL Canada assists Enbridge in the planning phase to optimize project engineering and execution strategy for the station, mains, and services required to connect to Enbridge’s distribution system. The first of these projects was completed in 2019.

These community expansion projects are essential for the communities and local economies they benefit. With a clean, low-cost energy source, residents can heat their homes for less. New businesses are also more likely to be attracted by the overall infrastructure improvement.

These projects also present an opportunity to support Canada’s First Nation communities. In 2020, NPL Canada began a community expansion to Saugeen Shores, connecting the Saugeen First Nation to affordable energy. Local outreach and employment opportunities for indigenous residents are important aspects for projects like these.
